The teenager in the black Civic is too impatient to wait in the left turn lane, so he cuts around and tries to push his way in down the line...unfortunately for him, the old man in the beat-up Mazda truck has other ideas and decides to teach the kid an expensive lesson.

Both are wrong. Civic shouldn’t have jumped the line but there was a siz able gap left by the B3000 who deliberately caused a perfectly avoidable collision.

I find rushing to close that gap always a bit of a dick move. I mean sometimes people screw up, better to just let them in if there’s room. If you can’t do that (which I also understand), then keep close to the car in front of you.
All that said, the Civic :
Didn’t look like some poor confused driver to me
Got extremely greedy, they could have jumped into the spot no problem, but went past it and then had to try to force their way in as the gap closed
Obviously did not look at what the truck was doing
Hit-and-ran, apparently.
So not much sympathy there.

Civic at fault 100%.

B3000 at-fault. Civic was a dick, maybe. But you don’t just close a gap like tha t unless you are a confirmed dick. Civic was signal on, and already entering the lane. This is seriously the same as if the Civic had completed the change and the B3000 rammed him from behind.

justified? yep. brat needed to be taught a lesson, you don’t just force your way over . too many kids think their cars are toys.

Civic 100% at fault, but dude in the Mazda could have completely prevented the accident.

doesn’t matter. traffic in the lane has right of way over merging traffic. you can’t just barge into another lane.
and BTW most dashcams have fisheye lenses so the distances you see are different than the actual distances. the kid in the Civic needs a good spanking like the brat he is, especially since he took off after the collision.

I feel the same way. He didn’t need to speed up and close the gap eventhough the civic was a greedy asshole. I have thought of driving a beater just to do this to some idiots but I probably wouldn’t when the time does come. A solid 10 second blast of the horn should do the trick most of the time.

If the truck had hit the civic in the rear 1/2 of the car I could see your point, but he got him in the front half, so the civic wasn’t in the lane quick enough. So he should get cited for entering a lane without having enough space. Should the Mazda have yeilded, yeah, but he was willing to make a point at the expense of their vehicle, so be it. The civic didn’t keep an eye out as they were making a lane change. They could’ve made it too, if they didn’t pussyfoot the lane change. Then your assessment would be correct had there still been a collision.

The Civic was definitely being a dick, but causing an avoidable accident isn’t justifiable. We’d all be better off if people could just chill the fuck out when they’re driving. I don’t know where that truck was going, or where that Civic was going, but I’m damn sure it wasn’t important enough to get in a crash over it.

Have you considered writing for FP?

Oh stop it you, I ’m flattered.

Double fault here. Honda shouldn’t have pushed his luck, but the Mazda shouldn’t have deliberately closed the door. If anything the Honda was already going to do a quick rear bumper delete anyways.

When you’re indicating to change lanes, you do so when clear and safe. If it’s not clear and safe you don’t change lanes.
Civic was being a dick, Mazda decided to be a dick back, Civic caused a collision. Civic drove into a car that was travelling straight and within its own lane. Civic made an unsafe lane change which caused a collision.

If the Civic driver hadn’t passed on the right (not usually legal, or at least frowned upon), this wouldn’t have happened. If the Civic driver had used their mirrors while changing lanes, they’d have noticed the truck closing the gap, amd it wouldn’t have happened . The fact that they also didn’t immediately stop and pull over further indicates my suspicion that maybe the same driver shouldn’t be behind the wheel for a while.
The truck driver made a dick move, but it wasn’t illegal, it was defensive, and he was maintaining his lane. He could/should have honked, though. If I were a cop and I’d seen that he’d maybe gotten a ticket for “reckless and imprudent” driving
since he was speeding up towards a line of cars that was braking, which could have ended worse for all nearby.

The horn doesn’t work, trust me. It usually ends in you getting flipped off and them pushing in anyway.

I’ve considered doing the same to people like that..........
I just love my vehicles too much to wreck them over someone else’s impatience.

I don’ t blame the guy in the truck. People are probably doing that all the time and he is sick of it and under no obligation to let him in. Screw the guy in the Civic.

The Civic was a dick, but r ight here, the Mazda could have hit the brakes:
He could have also stopped after initial contact, instead of using his truck to force the Civic back over into his lane. He actively steered toward the Civic like a linebacker putting up a block. Yeah, ya can’t do that I don’t care how much of a dick move the other car made.
I’m not saying it’s not “justified” in some sense, but if the insurance companies see that footage, the Mazda driver is going to lose. If nothing else, because of the aggression after the initial contact.

I don’t think so. I think unsafe lane change trumps all. Aggression or not, the Civic drove into the Mazda and caused a crash.
I’m not sure it was aggressive, he might have just been centering in his lane again. It looks like by the time the Mazda started turning right, the Civic wasn’t in contact anymore

It just happens so slowly, that I think the driver of the Mazda had plenty of time to avoid it based on the speeds involved . The Honda didn’t come in at 45 degrees or something. I think we may have to agree to disagree on this one.
Or at least, both were stupid / at fault to some degree.
![]() 10/15/2018 at 22:31 |

He could’ve avoided it. He stood his ground, which he’s entitled to do. The Civic is not entitled to change lanes if unsafe, but he did it anyway.
Haha, maybe. I respect the Mazda’s stubbornness, but ultimately I’d never create that situation for myself or choose to
let someone hit my car ;)

A ll of the above.
